Welcome to Decorate-and-Design.com!Rae

Hi, I’m Rae!   I’m so happy that you have decided to stop by and check out my site.

I have loved making home decor, refinishing or re-purposing furniture and other items since I was a teenager.  My mom and I used to work on projects together both as a hobby and to save money.  Once you know the basics and a couple of tricks, the only limit is your own imagination.

In the process of relocating there will be several re-purposing and redecorating projects that I will be working on.  Each time I have moved people have asked me how I came up with my ideas.  This time, as I search for new ideas to make these projects easier, more fun, and less expensive I will post them here on Decorate-and-Design.com to share with everyone who is interested.  You’ll find ideas for choosing paint colors that you will love for the way you feel and the way you look when you are in the room.  There are also pages about painting accent walls,  how to use texture, and a page with ideas about designing and decorating a small living room.  I’ve also posted a list of necessary supplies for painting and instructions on how to prepare for your painting project, as well as a post about primer and how best to use it.  I’ve recently added posts about some hidden storage ideas and compact or convertible furniture for very small spaces.

I hope you enjoy my website.

If you have helpful ideas or suggestions, I would love to hear them.   Please comment, or you can write to me at:  Designlikecrazy@decorate-and-design.com.

Happy Decorating!

  1. Hi Rae,
You have a really nice website. It is informative and exciting. You show the world many decorating possibilities that can really transform the homes of your audience. You make it easy to follow what you are saying. The site itself is elegant and classy and easy to follow along. I felt empowered by all of your blog posts because your delivery was excellent. Thank you.

  2. I have painted far too many houses in my time Rae. Mostly interiors. I have also paid for the professional to do the same. I found doing it myself gave a much better finished product. The professionals just don’t take the time and give the attention that an owner occupier will invest.
Ceilings are normally the tipping point.

    1. I haven’t had great experiences with the ‘professionals’ either. They always seem to be slop jobs. I figured it was just the
area where I live though. I have since met people who do really nice jobs so the real professionals are out there. It’s important
to verify references if you choose to hire someone. I choose to just do it myself too, having been forced to learn how after the previously noted experiences.
*Note: Especially check out plumbers. I had one local plumber hook up the main water to my a/c. I tried to stop him but he said he knew more than me. Believe me, it is not fun to have your a/c flood your house with water.
